About Sheila Burnett, a professional theatre photographer based in Portsmouth Harbour
Sheila’s photography career started in London in the 1980’s photographing the vibrant alternative theatre culture of the time. Prior to that she had studied at Birmingham School of Art before moving to London in the early 70’s. She worked in Fleet St as an illustrator meanwhile discovering the alternative press and theatre that predominate in London at the time. It wasn’t long before Sheila became involved with theatre joining the infamous Pip Simmons Theatre Group as a performer. They toured extensively for 10 years doing 2 shows a year, the theatre seed was well and truly planted. Sheila has been involved with theatre for over 30 years working behind the scenes at Shakespeare’s Globe, production photographer at many of the main theatres in the UK & as a professional headshot photographer for over 25 years. She has had the pleasure of working with Damian Lewis, Simon Pegg, Caroline Quentin, Helen Lederer, Imelda Staunton, Nick Frost, Jim Carter, Dr Michael Moseley, Ray Cooney and so many more.
Presently, Sheila is digitising her early theatre analogue work, including a blog of her early years touring with the Pip Simmons Theatre Group-Life on the Road 1974-1984
